Cross Country Teams Attempt to Make Mark at NCAA Western Regionals

The Cal State Northridge cross country team will travel up to northern California on Friday and prepare for Saturdayís NCAA Western Regionals, which will be hosted by Stanford University.

The womenís 6K race will begin at 10 a.m. while the menís 10K race will begin at 11 a.m.

Women's Finish fifth in Big West Championships, Men Finish Ninth

Angela Talarico led the Cal State Northridge womenís cross country team to a fifth-place finish at the 2002 Big West Conference Championships on Nov. 2. The race was held in Riverside, Calif.

The sophomore from Yakima, Wash. ran a time of 18:17 in the womenís 5K race as Idahoís Letiwe Marakurwa paced the field with a time 17:47. Talaricoís fifth-place finish marks her third top 10 finish this season. Senior Jeanene Gerry finished the race with a time of 19:01 and a 27th-place finish.

On the menís side, the Matadors placed ninth with a score of 276. Sophomore Zach Bates led the way for the Matadors with a 45th-place finish with a time of 26:43. Utah Stateís Mitch Zundel led the way in the race with a time of 24:46.
