Matadors Have Four Student-Athletes Named To USTFCCCA Division I All-Academic Team

NEW ORLEANS, La. - Cal State Northridge was represented by Cody Pearce and Nick Saylor on the men's side while Brittany Ricketts and Krystal Quinn were Matador representatives on the women's team on the 2007 USTFCCCA Men's and Women's Division I All-Academic Track and Field Teams.
233 student-athletes from 88 colleges and universities comprised the Division I Men’s All-Academic Team while 415 student-athletes representing 117 Division I colleges and universities made up the Division I Women's Team.
The USTFCCCA honors Division I individuals for their academic and athletic achievements during the indoor and outdoor track season.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, one must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 and obtain an NCAA automatic or provisional qualifying mark for the most recent indoor championships or an outdoor regional qualifying mark in their respective event.
Pearce, a sophomore thrower from Folsom, Calif., threw an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 188-6 (57.47) in the hammer at the Steve Scott Invitational in Irvine on Apr. 28. The mark surpasses his previous career-best of 182-10 set earlier this season. Pearce went on to place 21st in the hammer (180-3) at the NCAA West Regional in Eugene, Ore.
Saylor, a junior thrower from Quartz Hill, Calif., posted an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 186-8 (56.90) in the hammer at the Northridge Invitational in on Mar. 16. Saylor then bettered that mark with a career-best throw of 187-7 (57.18) at the NCAA West Regionals where he finished 17th.
Ricketts, a senior heptathlete and jumper from South Pasadena, Calif., qualified for the NCAA West Regional in both the long jump and heptathlon but competed in just the long jump at the Regionals. Ricketts shattered her previous lifetime-best in the long jump with a leap of 20-4.25 (6.20) which was second to teammate Candyce Babb at the 2007 Big West Outdoor Championships. Ricketts also finished third in the heptathlon at the Big West Championships by scoring a lifetime-best 5,151 points. Ricketts went on to finish 13th in the long jump with a leap of 19-5.25 (5.92).
Quinn, a junior pole vaulter/sprinter from Palmdale, Calif., broke the Cal State Northridge outdoor record in the pole vault with a height of 12-5.50 (3.80) at the 2007 Big West Championships in May. She went on to tie for 21st at the West Regional with a height of 12-0 (3.66). Quinn also ran the 200 and 400 meters for the Matador women during the outdoor season.
