2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships Live Results
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Matador junior DaShalle Andrews won the men's long jump at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships becoming just the second Matador student-athlete to take home a National Championship at the Division I level.
Andrews, who qualified for the long jump final on his final jump on Wednesday, jumped 25-02.50 (7.68) on his first attempt Thursday to hold off Louisville sophomore Tone Belt.
Andrews' jump was off the lifetime-best of 25-4.75 (7.74) he posted in winning the Big West championship in May. He becomes Northridge's first men's National Champion in 16 years of Division I competition. Darcy Arreola won the Matadors' first National Championship in the 1,500 meters in 1991, Northridge's first season of Division I competition.
Fellow junior Rolando Felizola jumped 23-06 (7.16) on his first attempt but fouled on his final two attempts to finish tied for 11th.
The Matadors, based on Andrews' 10 points, are tied for second place in men's team standings heading into day three on Friday.
Andrews and Felizola will open competition in the triple jump on Friday at 1:45 p.m.
