SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Juniors Rolando Felizola, DaShalle Andrews and Terry Ross all qualified out of the early rounds of their respective events at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday at Hornet Stadium in Sacramento.
Felizola and Andrews both jumped well in the afternoon's long jump event. Felizola jumped a career-best 25-1.75 (7.66) on his third and final attempt to finish third in flight one and fifth overall. Andrews, jumping in flight two, fouled on his first two events before posting a distance of 24-10 (7.57) on his third attempt. Andrews finished fifth in his flight and tied for ninth overall heading into event final on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
In the 110 meter hurdles, Ross improved on his lifetime best by running 13.77 in the prelims and qualified 10th. Running in heat two, Ross, who's previous best was 13.78, placed fourth in his heat and advances to Friday's final at 6:15 p.m.
On the women's side, the 4x100 relay team of Deanna Goodwin, Shauna Hackett, Julie Eze and Dominique Calvin finished 10th in qualifying (fourth in heat three) in a time of 45.18 but did not reach the event final.
Individually, Goodwin placed 26th in the 400 meter prelims in a time of 54.28 which was well off her lifetime-best and Northridge record 52.92.
