Goodwin Claims 400 Meters as Three Matadors Punch Tickets For NCAA Championships
Saturday's Day Two Results
EUGENE, Ore. - Senior Deanna Goodwin claimed the women's 400 meters in a time of 53.56 and Terry Ross and DaShalle Andrews also earned their way to the NCAA Outdoor Championships after Saturday's action in the NCAA West Regional in Oregon.
Goodwin, who also finished eighth in the 200 meters in a time of 25.03, picked up 11 points for the Northridge women's team on Saturday. As a team, the Matadors finished 13th with 18 points. Goodwin ran a blistering 53.56 to win the 400 by .09 but her time was off her lifetime-best 52.92 set earlier this year.
Also on Saturday, Goodwin helped the 4x100 relay team place third in a time of 45.12. The Matadors' 4x400 relay team did not start on Saturday.
In the field events, Krystal Quinn finished in a tie for 21st in the pole vault with a height of 12-0 (3.66) and Raquel Sola placed 14th in the hammer with a mark of 180-3 (54.94) which was well of her season-best of 185-0.
The Matador men also finished 13th at the regional by scoring a total of 25 points.
Ross continued his marveous first season at Northridge with a second-place finish in the 110 meter hurdles. Ross set a Northridge record by clocking a time of 13.78 snapping the previous record of 13.81. The Matadors picked up a total of 10 points in the hurdles after senior Anthony Brown placed seventh in a time of 14.27.
The Matadors' 4x100 relay had a disappointing finish as they were disqualified in the final for passing out of the zone.
After a solid day of jumping on Friday, DaShalle Andrews continued the momentum on Saturday taking third in the triple jump with a mark of 51-5 (15.67) to earn six points. Rolando Felizola also earned a point with an eighth-place finish at 49-7.75 (15.13).
Also on Saturday, Ryan Richards finished 17th in the javelin with a distance of 179-5 (54.70), well off his season-best of 205-4.
