Matadors Impressive at Boise State's Holiday Inn Indoor Invitational
NAMPA, Idaho - CSUN's Hung Nguyen, Jason Romero and Scott Myers each won event titles, while Andrea Palacio and Laura Sauao both won event titles on the women's side as Cal State Northridge had a solid meet last Saturday at the Boise State Holiday Inn Invitational.

Nguyen, who the 60 meters in the time of 6.87, led a CSUN sweep of the top three spots. Rashaad Allen was second (6.92) and Wes Williams was a close third (6.93). Andre Haynes finished eighth in the finals in a time of 7.00. Nguyen then came back to finish second in the 200 meters, posting a season-best time of 21.47, while Haynes and Williams were sixth and seventh respectively. Elsewhere on the track, Ricco Brown was fourth in the 400 meters (49.89), Rob Kasper and Robert Santini finished two-three in the 800 meters, with Santini running a personal-best 1:55.33. Santini also finished third in the mile run in a time of 4:28.92.

In the men's field events, Romero had another solid meet as he won the triple jump with a career-best mark of 50-6.75 (15.41m) and finished second in the high jump (6-11) and third in the long jump (22-9.75). CSUN had six of the top nine jumpers in the long jump event as Charles Jones was fifth, Jeremy Garcia was sixth, Rashaad Dixon was seventh, Johnny Wiley was eighth and Brandon Ruffin was ninth. Dixon finished just behind Romero in the triple jump with a personal-best mark of 50-4.50 (15.35m). Elsewhere in the field events, Scott Myers won the shot put with a season-best throw of 55-2, Matt Mosely finished tied for fifth in the pole vault (14-7.50) and Tim Selby was seventh in the weight throw (55-3.75).

For the Matador women, Sauao won the shot put event with a mark of 49-10 (15.19m) edging out Utah State's Kelli Burton by .04 meters. Sauao was also fourth in the weight throw (59-3.50) and Tukia Vakalahi was fifth with a throw of 57-2.25 (17.43m). Natoya Woods and Christina Gutierrez were eighth and ninth in the high jump, while Woods, Toni Smith and LaShana Verdon finished fifth through seventh in the long jump. Aaliyah Shareef was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 38-2.25 (11.64m), while Smith was fifth with a mark of 37-11.50 (11.57m).

On the track, Palacio won the mile run with a season-best time of 5:07.82, winning the race by nearly three minutes. She also finished fourth in the 3,000 meters in a time of 10:18.25. Shauna Hackett finished fifth in the 60 meters in a time of 7.74, while Deanna Goodwin was seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 25.60. Ashley Cambaliza was the highest CSUN finisher in the 800 meters as she finished 14th in a time of 2:18.72.
