Cole Clears 8.00 Meters at New Balance Invitational

New Balance Invitational Final Results

ARMORY, N.Y. - Cal State Northridge freshman Reindell Cole cleared 8.00 meters in the men's long jump final at the New Balance Invitational at Armory, N.Y. on Friday. In the process, Cole breaks the 15-year old Northridge indoor long jump record set by Derek Scurry in 1993.

Cole, who set a career-best with a jump of 26-1.75 (7.97) on Feb. 2 at the UW Invitational in Seattle, WA, eclipsed that jump with a mark of 26-4.50 (8.04) on Saturday. Cole's mark breaks Scurry's mark of 26-3.50 (8.01) which stood since 1993 and stretches his NCAA-leading long jump mark.

Other noteworthy performances by the Northridge men and women at the meet: Senior Terry Ross ran a career-best 7.99 in men's 60 meter hurdles qualifying, Sherrina Lofton ran a lifetime-best 7.60 in the women's 60 meter prelims, Bradley Ike ran a career-best 6.82 in the men's 60 meter prelims, Alex Butler reached a career-best 52-4.50 (15.96) in the men's shot put, Dominique Calvin (19-4.25) and Desirae Gonder (19-0.75) each finished in the top even of the women's long jump, Justin Johnson took third in the men's high jump final with a height of 6-8.25 (2.04) and Robert Robinson set a career-best with a mark of 22-7 (6.88) in the men's long jump.

Cal State Northridge will return to the state of Washington as the Matadors compete at the Husky Classic at the University of Washington on Saturday, Feb. 16.
