Matadors Fall to UC Irvine in Regular Season Finale
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Allison Brookes tallied four goals for the Matadors as Northridge closed out its final game of the 2006 regular season with a 12-8 loss to seventh-ranked UC Irvine. With the loss, the Matadors fall to 12-19 overall, with a 1-11 mark in MPSF play.

Jessica Coy and Heather van Hemert both notched their first goals of the game in the first period of play. By the end of the quarter, Northridge trailed the Anteaters, 4-2.

Northridge battled back into the game in the second quarter, scoring two goal, while holding the Anteaters to just one goal in the period. At the half, the Matadors were within one goal of UCI, 5-4.

van Hemert scored her second goal of the day in the third quarter at the 4:53 mark to tie the game at five all. The Anteaters countered less than 30 seconds later, taking and holding the lead for the remainder of the game.

In the fourth quarter, UCI rattled off four straight goals to take a 12-6 lead. Brookes and Coy scored two more goals for the Matadors in the final two minutes of the game as Northridge took a 12-8 defeat.

The Matadors will return to UC Irvine next weekend for the MPSF Tournament. With a loss by Pacific today, Northridge will be seeded No. 12 in the tournament and will face off with Hawaii, who has clinched the fifth spot, in the first round. The game is scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, April 27.
