Water Polo Team Finishes Home Season With 10-2 Win Over Slugs
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. — On a day which honored seniors Jessica Moody, Katie Roth and Jamie McGray for their dedication to the Northridge water polo program, it was only fitting that the trio had the most impact in Northridge’s (19-5) 10-2 win over visiting UC Santa Cruz Sunday at the Matador Pool.

Moody was monstrous in goal, making a game-high 10 saves on Santa Cruz’s 16 shots on goal. Moody surrendered the Slugs’ first goal of the game at the 4:21 mark in the first quarter, but held them scoreless until 2:20 left in the game. The Oceanside, Calif. native has tallied 148 saves this season.

Roth scored two-straight goals to begin the second period. She scored her first of the game at the 5:56 mark and a minute-and-nine-seconds later, tipped in her second goal of the day off a pretty assist from Pam Barba. The Arcadia, Calif. native scored both goals on only three shot attempts.

McGray rounded out the senior performance after scoring her second goal of the season at the 3:54 mark of the third period. She rifled in a 4-meter goal past Slug goalieJoanne Heraty.

Freshman Erica Bonetti had a big game for the Matadors, scoring four goals on the day, while Barba got Northridge on the board early with her two first period goals.

Bonetti out the Matadors on the board first, but the Slugs countered as Parisa Forouhi scored at the 4:21 mark in the first. In the final period, UCSC’s Desiree Gant put one past Moody with 2:20 left in the game.

The Matadors will face No. 17 UC Irvine Saturday at 9:10 a.m. in game two of the Long Beach State Tournament in Long Beach, Calif. They will then face host Long Beach State at 12:40 p.m. and UC Santa Cruz at 4:10 p.m.
