17th-Ranked Matadors Beat Bakersfield 16-6
Junior Chari Christopher scored four goals and sophomore Lynzy Klein and freshman Christine Cruz each had three as the 17th-ranked Matadors defeated Cal State Bakersfield 16-6 on Thursday at Matador Pool.

The Matadors improve to 7-7 on the season with the win, while the Roadrunners fall to 3-8.

Northridge got off to a quick start, scoring the first four goals of the match. Christopher scored 40 seconds in and then 51 seconds later to make it 2-0. Klein scored her first of the game with 1:22 left to make it 3-0 and freshman Allison Brookes made it 4-0 on an ejection goal with :25 left. Savana Wheeler scored with 12 seconds remaining to make it 4-1, but junior Erica Bonetti had a score with two seconds left in the first to make it 5-1.

Katie Dacus made it 5-2 with 4:17 left in the second period, but CSUN scored the final four of the second to take a 9-2 halftime lead. Klein scored a 4-meter goal with 4:03 left, senior Kristen Franz scored at 3:24, Brookes made it 8-2 at 2:45 and Klein made it 9-2 with :16 seconds left on the clock.

The Matadors scored four more times in the third to make it 13-2 on a pair of goals by Christopher and scores by Bonetti and Cruz. Northridge scored three times in the final quarter, while Bakersfield had four goals. Dacus scored two times and Emma Keogh and Mindi Mason had scores in the fourth for the Roadrunners, while Cruz had a pair of goals and freshman Michelle Keeley added a score for the Matadors.

In goal, junior Graziella Caredda had nine saves in three periods, while freshman Elizabeth Geiger took the net in the fourth. Amber Brenner had three saves for CSUN.

The Matadors will play four times this weekend, with two games Saturday and two on Sunday. Northridge will travel to Riverside for the Cal Baptist Lancer Invitational on Saturday, playing Redlands at 3:40 p.m. and Cal Baptist at 6:55 p.m. On Sunday, the Matadors go south to San Diego to play San Diego State at 10 a.m. and Bucknell at 1 p.m.
