Northridge, Ca. - Goalkeeper Jillian Stapf set a single season school record to help lead the 13th-ranked Cal State Northridge women's water polo team to an 11-4 victory over Sonoma State in a non-league game on Sunday morning at Matador Pool.

Stapf collected nine saves against the Sea Wolves to give her 356 for the season. That broke her previous school mark of 348 set as a freshman two seasons ago. Stapf now has 979 career saves in two-plus seasons with the Matadors, another school record.

Cal State Northridge forged a 3-1 first period lead, and extended the margin to 6-1 at halftime.

Jessica Coy, Alison Pierce, Tara McGinley and Sydney Sonoda each scored two goals for the Matadors who raised their season record to 19-14.

At 4:00 p.m., the Matadors will host Cal State San Bernardino. Before the game, three Matador seniors (Jessica Coy, Tara McGinley, Devin Sloan) will be honored.

Next week, the Matadors will compete at the Big West Championship (April 24-26) at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool Complex at the University of Pacific. Because Cal State Northridge, UC Irvine and UC Davis all shared the conference regular season title, a coin toss on Sunday morning determined the top three seeds. Cal State Northridge won the top seed followed by UC Davis, UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, Pacific and Long Beach State.
