Marcelo Leonardi enters his second season as the assistant coach for women's water polo at Northridge. Before his time at Nothridge, Leonardi was the head coach of the El Rancho High School girl's water polo and swimming programs for six years. The Dons won Del Rio League water polo titles in 2003 and 2004 behind Leonardi, who was selected as CIF Division III Coach of the Year in `04 in leading ERHS to a D-3 CIF Championship runner-up finish. He also helped the swimming squad to a league title in 2004. Also among Leonardi's coaching highlights are being named Coastal California Women's National Youth Zone Coach (2003-05), Top 40 Women's Speedo Head Coach for Team Graffiti in 2004 and National Junior Olympics coach for the El Rancho Water Polo Club (2002-04). Leonardi has also been selected as the San Gabriel Valley Women's All-Star water polo coach three times, as well as the SGV women's water polo district coach in 2004. Leonardi graduated in 1998 with a bachelor's degree in biology and spanish from Whittier College, where he also earned his master's degree in education in 2001 and a teaching credential in biology/life sciences in 2003. He is also currently attending Azusa Pacific, where he is completing his Doctor of Education degree. |
