Northridge, Calif. - The 2007 Cal State Northridge women's volleyball media guide has been accorded national honors as one of the best informational guides in the United States.
In a panel of media members and sponsored by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the 68-page media guide has been voted the fifth best women's volleyball media guide in the nation.
Cal State Northridge was the only mid-major university to finish in the Top 7. Nebraska won top honors as "Best in the Nation" followed by Kentucky, Kansas, Penn State, Cal State Northridge, Virginia Tech and Texas A & M. Cal State Northridge garned top honors in District-8 (Western United States) with Brigham Young placing second.
The guide was written and edited by Matt Monroe (Associate Media Relations Director) and designed by Braden Villanueva (Media Relations Art Director). For Monroe, this is the fourth time that his work has been honored nationally. Three other Matador media guides written by Monroe have been judged "Best in the Nation".
Monroe, a 1992 graduate of Sonoma State University with a B.A. degree in Communication studies, is in his ninth season on the CSUN Athletic Media Relations staff.
Villanueva has earned numerous honors including various regional awards as well as nine CoSIDA "Best in the Nation" awards. Villanueva is responsible for design and production of CSUN department publications.
Villanueva earned his Bachelors of Arts degree in cinema-television arts with an emphasis in television production from Cal State Northridge in 1997.
Cal State Northridge produces numerous athletic media guides during the course of the academic year. Other sports media guide winners will be announced during the summer by CoSIDA.
