Matadors Drop Four-Set Decision at Cal State Fullerton

FULLERTON, Calif. - Junior Angela Hupp posted a match-high 16 kills and added a team-high 18 digs but Cal State Northridge came up short 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 25-17 to Cal State Fullerton in a Big West volleyball match Saturday night at Titan Gym.

The Matadors slip to 7-20 overall and 1-12 in the Big West while the Titans even their overall record at 14-14 and improve to 7-6 in conference play.

Hupp had a solid all-around match as she matched Fullerton's Brittany Moore for match-high honors with 16 kills while hitting .250. Hupp also added a team-high 18 digs and four blocks. The double-double was Hupp's team-leading eighth of the season. Senior Val Kepler also registered double figures in kills as she added 10 while hitting .444. Freshman setter Sam Orlandini also recorded a double-double, her seventh, with 41 assists and 12 digs while Kelley Hanson (16) and Siara Grayson (14) also had double figures in digs.

The two teams played a close match until late in the fourth set where Fullerton pulled away for good. Fullerton out-hit Northridge .180 to .124 and out-blocked them 8.0 to 7.0 as a team.

For the Titans, Moore and Andrea Ragan both notched double-doubles. Moore with 16 kills and 20 digs, and Ragan with 40 assists, 17 digs. Alex Wolnisty added 14 kills (.321) and posted five blocks (one solo) in the win.

Cal State Northridge wraps up the road portion of the 2008 schedule next week as the Matadors travel to Pacific (Nov. 14) and UC Davis (Nov. 15). Northridge hosts Long Beach State in its home finale on Nov. 21.
