Northridge Junior Victoria Brymer Named Big West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week
Updated Women's Tennis Stats

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. --- Matador junior Victoria Brymer was named the Big West Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the Big West Conference announced Wednesday. In action last week, Brymer posted a 1-0 record in singles play and a 1-1 record in doubles competition. Her win over Cal Poly’s Brittany Blalock propelled No. 73 CSUN past No. 67 Cal Poly.

Brymer defeated Blalock in three sets, 3-6, 6-2 and 6-3 on Feb. 16 at the Matador Tennis Complex. She now stands at 2-0 in singles play this season, having also defeated Cal State Fullerton’s Erin Wiesener, 6-4 and 6-2 on Feb. 6.

“Victoria showed a great amount of character and determination to win this early in her season considering she hasn’t played anyone at this level in over a year,” head coach Gary Victor said. “If she takes care of herself physically and mentally, Victoria is capable of beating anyone on our schedule.”

In doubles action last week, Brymer teamed with senior Canna Furuta to defeat UCSD’s Ina Dan and Taskeen Bains, 8-2, in CSUN’s 7-0 victory over the Tritons. However, Brymer and sophomore Kristy Fournell fell to the No. 20 tandem of Blalock and Steffi Wong, 8-3, in the No. 1 doubles match.

Brymer and the Matadors return to action on Saturday when they travel to Stockton to face Pacific at 1 p.m. The next day, the roadtrip continues with another Big West match, this one against league newcomer UC Davis at 11 a.m.
