NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team swept Cal State Bakersfield (13-7, 6-2), 7-0, in its regular season finale Saturday afternoon at the Matador Tennis Complex. Seniors Kanykey Koichumanova and Canna Furuta each picked up singles and doubles victories in their final regular season competition, with the Big West Championships looming on April 25.

Koichumanova teamed with freshman Brooke Doane to win their No. 1 doubles match, 8-2, over Kaydee Graham and Kati Lynott. The tandem finished the season 17-2 in doubles play this season. Koichumanova also won the top singles match, 6-1, 6-0, over Lynott to finish 10-9 on the season.

Furuta and teammate Nina Jaworowski defeated Sara Mijwel and Ashlee Thorneycrof, 8-3, in the No. 2 doubles match. The senior also won her No. 2 singles match, 6-0, 6-4, over Isabella Kasselstrand to finish the season 8-11 in singles play. As a team, Furuta and Jaworowski finished 3-0 on the season.

In other doubles action, junior Sandra Kukla and sophomore Kristy Fournell defeated Isabella Kasselstrand and Leslie Begley, 8-0, in the No. 3 match. The pair finished 2-2 in doubles play this year.

In singles action, Kukla defeated Thorneycroft in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0, at the third position. At the fourth spot, Doane defeated Mijwel, 6-0, 6-1. Kukla finished the season 13-5 in singles play while Doane was 13-4 on the year.

In the fifth position, Jaworowski defeated Graham, 6-0, 6-0, to finish the season 11-4 in singles play. Finally, freshman Whitney Paluch won the first match of her college career, defeating Begley, 6-0, 6-0, in the sixth position. Paluch was 1-2 on the year.

The Matadors will now head to the Big West Championships as the third seed in the tournament. The action will take place in Indian Wells, Calif., starting on April 25.
