NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (11-7, 6-2 BWC) defeated New Mexico State, 4-3, Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match at the Matador Tennis Complex. After winning the doubles point with two victories, Victoria Brymer, Kanykey Koichumanova and Brooke Doane all captured singles victories to give the Matadors the victory.

Head coach Gary Victor did mix up his doubles tandem, but he did not alter the team of Koichumanova and Doane. The dup moved up and won their first No.1 match of the season, 8-3, over Aleska Costa and Sophia Marks to move to 16-1 on the season in doubles competition.

In the No. 2 doubles match, Brymer teamed with sophomore Kristy Fournell, but fell 8-5, to Zeljka Juricek and Stephanie Eusebe. However, senior Canna Furuta and freshman Nina Jaworowski defeated Anne Fagegaltier and Bianca Discordia, 8-4, in the third position.

In singles play, Brymer snapped an eight-match losing streak in defeating Marks, 2-6, 6-4 and 6-4, in the top of the draw. She is now 4-13 on the season.

Koichumanova also halted a three-match losing streak, winning her No. 2 match in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0, over Juricek. She is now 8-10 on the season.

Doane captured the match's deciding point, defeating Costa, 6-3, 6-7 (4) and 7-6 (2), in the No. 5 match. She is now 10-4 on the season.

Furuta dropped her No. 3 match, 6-1, 6-1, to Eusebe while junior Sandra Kukla also lost, falling 6-2. 6-0, to Fagegaltier in the No. 4 draw. Furuta stands at 7-10 on the season while Kukla is 11-5.

Finally, Fournell lost the No. 6 match to Paulina Zuniga in three sets, 3-6, 6-4 and 6-4. She is now 5-6 on the year.

The Matadors return to courts on April 15, hosting Fresno Pacific. First serve at the Matador Tennis Complex is set for 2 p.m.
