LOS ANGELES, Calif. -
The Cal State Northridge women's tennis team (9-7, 5-2) lost, 6-1, to Loyola Marymount in a non-conference tennis match Thursday. Freshman Brooke Doane and senior Kanykey Koichumanova won, 8-4, in their doubles match to run their season record to 14-1.
Doane and Koichumanova handled the Lions' Shauna Morgan and Tina Razloznik in their No. 2 doubles match. However, Loyola Marymount won the point, taking the other two contests. Junior Victoria Brymer and senior Canna Furuta fell in the No. 1 match, 8-0, to Pavla Mesterova and Tamara Tanner, and junior Sandra Kukla and sophomore Kristy Fournell lost their No. 3 match, 8-1, to Jasmin Heckel and Bliss Nixon.
In singles play, Doane picked up the Matadors' only point of the match, defeating Morgan, 3-6, 6-4 and 10-8, in the No. 5 match. She now stands at 9-4, having won five of her past seven matches.
In the top of the draw, Mesterova, who entered the match ranked 67th in the nation, defeated Brymer, 6-1, 6-2, and Koichumanova retired after trailing 4-0 in the first set. Finally, Razloznik defeated Kukla, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 3 match.
Freshman Whitney Paluch made her Northridge debut in the match, falling to 6-1 and 7-5 to Nixon in the No. 6 match. In the No. 4 match, Furuta lost 6-3 in straight sets to Heckel.
The Matadors return to action on April 5 when they host UC Riverside at the Matador Tennis Complex in a Big West Conference match. First serve is slated for noon.
