Toshiba Classic Day Three Results
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. -
In the final day of the Toshiba Classic, the Matadors showed signs of fatigue but pulled together for a strong finish and a few Top-Ten swims.
The 200 Backstroke was up first and junior Hank Weinberger surprised his team once again, touching in 1:54.61, a time that places him 16th in finals.
The 100 Freestyle had its ups and downs, with freshman Jordan Harris swimming an off-event, but still earning a second swim with his time of 47.22, and the 25th spot in finals. Also earning a second swim, but performing below expectations, junior Chris Grafton touched in 47.41, and 27th place overall.
To finish the morning off for the men, senior Jeff Raimondi and freshman Guillermo Aguilar both qualified for finals in the 200 Butterfly, with times of 1:57.54 and 2:01.66, respectively. Their performances place them in 23rd and 32nd overall.
The women's session began with the 200 Backstroke and a Top-Ten time from junior Yulia Gavrilova in 2:04.88, moving her to 4th on the list and 22nd in the event. Teammate Kimmy Rashleigh touched in 2:06.68 and 36th overall. The time ranks Rashleigh's swim as the 8th fastest 200 Backstroke in CSUN history.
30-minutes later, Rashleigh earned herself another Top-Ten ranking, this time in the 200 Breastroke. The freshman touched in 2:23.68 and 28th overall in the event, bringing her to 8th on the Top-Ten list.
In the final event of the morning, the Matadors were well represented by Gavrilova and junior Olesya Senicheva. Both ladies qualified for second swims with times of 2:06.37 and 2:07.94, respectively.
The first swim by a Matador in the finals session came care of Gavrilova. The junior fell just short of her morning session time, finishing in 2:05.64 and 21st place overall. The men were represented in three of the four finals heats with Jeff DeMoss finishing in 2:03.59 for 25th, Jimmy Rogers finishing 20th in 1:58.14, and Weinberger finishing 16th in 1:55.69.
Harris may have been the only swimmer to represent the Matadors in the 100 Freestyle, but he was still able to carry himself to a season-best time, winning his heat in 46.93, for 25th place overall.
In the 200 Breaststroke Rashleigh easily won her heat for a 25th place finish and a time of 2:20.27. The time moves Rashleigh up to 4th on the Top-Ten list of CSUN swims.
Surprising splits came from the women in the 400 Freestyle Relay, capping off the evening with a time of 3:35.66. Rashleigh and Senicheva teamed up with Lysandra Carter-Aaron and Jess Bley for a 16th place finish. The men also performed well, finishing in 8th place in 3:07.15.
