NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge softball team announced the signing of five players to National Letters of Intent, according to head coach Tairia Flowers. Alexa Limon and Tiffini Lucero bring junior college experience while Crystal Maas, Sydney House and Abby Linn offer extensive high school and travel ball knowledge to the Matadors beginning in the 2012 season.

"We're excited to bring in five quality people to the Matadors for the 2012 season and beyond," Flowers said. "All five young women are great people who will help make this a program that the school can be proud of for their work on the diamond, in the classroom and throughout the community."

Maas, House and Linn will all arrive at Northridge in the fall of 2011 with four years of eligibility after graduating high school in the spring. Limon and Lucero will each come to CSUN with two years of eligibility remaining.

Maas will join the Matadors as a pitcher and infielder after a successful career at Carson High School. In the 2010 season, she batted .368 with 28 runs scored and 24 RBIs for the Colts. She played her travel ball for SoCal Wicked.

"Crystal is capable of playing both corner infield spots and brings depth to our pitching staff," Flowers said. "She is also a great force at the plate that will add depth and power to our lineup."

House prepped at Crescenta Valley High School where she primarily played first base. In 2010, she was an All-Area First Team selection, batting .405 with four home runs and 27 RBIs for the Falcons. She also earned All-Pacific League First Team honors and scored 16 runs. She played her travel ball for Firecrackers North.

"Sydney brings a lot of power to the plate and is an outstanding defensive first baseman," Flowers added. "I fully expect Sydney to come in and compete for playing time."

Linn is the third prep to join the Matadors in 2012 after spending her high school career at Saugus High School. She earned All-Foothill League Second Team honors following the 2010 season. She batted .347 with 11 RBIs and 14 runs scored for the Centurions that season. She played her travel ball for SoCal Explosion.

"Abby will add a new dimension to our team as a slapper," Flowers said. "She will help us mix up our line up, brings a lot of speed and has a strong arm from the outfield."

Limon joins CSUN after two seasons at Mt. SAC. With the Mounties, Limon was 17-5 in the 2010 season from the pitching circle. She also earned a spot on the 2010 California State Championship All-Tournament Team. She was a teammate that season with current Matador Samantha Sloniker.

"Alexa is a solid pitcher who knows the game and knows how to work the pitch count," Flowers said. "She will be a great addition to our pitching rotation."

Lucero will arrive at CSUN after spending two seasons at the College of Southern Nevada. In 2010, Lucero batted .303 with 19 RBIs and 39 runs scored. She also had six stolen bases and four doubles and three triples.

"Tiffini is a dynamic infielder who brings a slick glove to our team," Flowers said. "I expect her to compete for infield positions and to add speed to our offense."

Flowers and the Matadors start their 2011 season at the Kajikawa Classic hosted by Arizona State on Feb. 11 with a game against San Jose State.
