NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Cal State Northridge softball head coach Tairia Flowers has been named an Assistant Coach as part of the 2011 USA Softball Women's National Team Program. After a successful playing career, Flowers will now be a part of the coaching staff for Team USA and will work several events during the summer of 2011, including the World Cup of Softball VI in Oklahoma City, Okla.

"This opportunity will be a great experience for me to work with and learn from some great head coaches," Flowers said. "It is always an honor to represent your country and to be able to work with Team USA in a coaching role is yet another dream come true."

Flowers is one of two newcomers to the Team USA Coaching Staff for 2011. Joining her as rookie assistant coach is former UCLA teammate and current San Diego State assistant coach Stacey Nueveman. The two will work together, and be joined by Oregon's head coach Mike White, at the 2011 World Cup of Softball July 21-25 in Oklahoma City.

The trio will be under the guidance of Team USA head coach Ken Eriksen, currently the head coach at South Florida.

"I am very excited to work with Coach Eriksen this summer," Flowers added. "He was with us as an assistant in 2004 and I feel very comfortable with him. He's played the game and has a lot to share with a young head coach like myself."

In addition to her time in Oklahoma City, Flowers will work at the team's selection camp in Chula Vista, Calif., from June 13-17. She will then be part of tour stops in Salem, Virginia (June 29) and Bowie, Maryland (July 1).

Coaches for the 2011 Pan American Games October 17-23 in Guadalajara, Mexico, will be made following the selection camp,
