Matadors Picked Third in Big West Coaches Preseason Poll
Cal State Northridge picked up one first-place vote and 47 points, placing third in the Big West Conference Coaches Preseason Poll on Wednesday.

Long Beach State was tabbed as the conference favorite, earning four first-place nods and 59 points. Four-time defending champion Cal State Fullerton earned three-first place votes and 56 points to place second. Rounding out the poll was Pacific, UC Santa Barbara, Cal Poly, UC Riverside and Utah State.

The Matadors return 13 letterwinners and nine starters from last year's postseason team that went 27-23 and finished in third place in the Big West. Leading the way is senior Christen Bedwell, an All-West Region first-team selection from a year ago, and junior Kia Fennell, who earned All-Region first-team honors and an All-American second team award.

The Matadors begin their season on Friday, February 6 when they travel to Tucson, Ariz. for the Pepsi Arizona Softball Classic. CSUN will start with a matchup against Mississippi at 9 a.m. MT, followed by a game with UNLV at 11 a.m. MT.
