Fennell Drafted First Overall by Harlem Diamonds
The Harlem Diamonds have drafted Cal State Northridge senior pitcher/designated player Kia Fennell with the first overall pick in their 2005 college seniors draft on Monday.
The Harlem Diamonds are a newly-formed professional softball team that will begin play on June 10, 2005 and will perform nearly 60 games as fundraising events for community youth and social service organizations.
Fennell earned second-team All-Big West Conference accolades as a junior in 2004 after posting a 2.14 earned run average, an 18-11 record and 132 strikeouts in 177 innings pitched. She also hit .314 with four home runs and 12 runs batted in. As a sophomore in 2003, Fennell earned second-team All-American honors and first-team All-West Region and All-Big West accolades after hitting .333 with six home runs and 35 RBI. In the circle, she went 17-12 with a 2.11 ERA and 169 strikeouts in 182 2/3 innings.
