The Cal State Northridge softball team (16-19, 5-4 BWC) lost to UC Santa Barbara, 4-0, Sunday in the finale of its three-game series Sunday afternoon at Matador Diamond. Senior Samantha Schroeder pitched well in the defeat for the Matadors, scattering just two hits and walking one over six innings of relief.
Coming into relieve starter Mercedes Lovato at the start of the second inning, Schroeder allowed just one additional Gaucho run to cross the plate and even that was unearned. For the season, Schroeder stands at 0-2 with a 3.38 ERA. In Big West play, she leads the team with a 0.55 ERA.
UC Santa Barbara (24-18, 7-2 BWC) got to Lovato early as Tisha Duran blasted a three-run home run in the top of the first. Lovato allowed three hits and one walk in her inning of work today. She took the loss in the game and moved to 13-12 on the season with a 3.04 ERA with a 111 strikeouts.
Christina Saenz recorded her second double of the season off UCSB's MeLinda Matsumoto, who tossed a complete game shutout in the victory. She moved to 6-8 on the season with the win. CSUN committed three errors in the field.
The Matadors hit the road for their next series, traveling to San Luis Obispo to face defending league champion Cal Poly. The Mustangs and Northridge will renew their rivalry with a pair of games on April 19 at Bob Jansssen Field starting at noon and a third game on Sunday, April 20 also at noon.
