Box Score

DAVIS, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge softball team (13-20, 1-2 Big West) lost 5-3 to UC Davis in the third and final game between the two teams Sunday afternoon at La Rue Field. The Aggies' Alex Holmes dominated the Matadors in the rubber game, fanning eight as CSUN offered little resistance at the plate.

The Matadors were simply flat from the start of Sunday's contest as they dropped their sixth game in their last seven contests. Despite collecting just four hits, the Matadors managed to strand nine runners in the game.

Holmes continued to stymie Northridge in Sunday's finale, tossing a complete game for the win. She finished the weekend with 27 strikeouts in 18.1 innings of work.

UC Davis scored a run in the first after starting the game with a walk and a triple. The Aggies added two more in the third on a pair of sac flies after loading the bases with no outs.

The Aggies added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth, chasing CSUN starter Hannah Fraijo. She took the loss to drop to 9-6 on the year after going 3.1 innings with seven hits and four earned runs.

The Matadors finally broke through against Holmes in the top of the sixth, getting their first two hits of the game. Kristen Mihm broke up the no-hitter with a single to left field and she and Korinne Randazzo scored on a triple by Jennifer Mosier.

Mikyala Thielges led off the seventh with a solo home run, her 10th of the season, but any hopes of a rally ended with a game-ending double-play.

Carly Wade tossed the final 2.2 innings for Northridge, allowing two hits and no runs.

Northridge returns to action Tuesday, April 5 with a non-conference doubleheader against San Diego State. First pitch between the Matadors and Aztecs is slated for 1 p.m. at Matador Diamond.
Jennifer Mosier had a two-run triple for CSUN in the loss.
