Box Score

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Cal State Northridge softball team (12-18) lost 16-5 in five innings to No. 9 Arizona Sunday at Hillenbrand Stadium. Jaci Carlsen had two hits and two RBIs and Madeline Sale also had two hits for the Matadors, who gave the Wildcats their best fight of the weekend in the series finale.

After struggling at the plate in the first two games of the series, CSUN strung together five runs and seven hits Sunday. Jennifer Mosier scored two runs and had two RBIs and Tanna Bindi also had a hit and a run scored.

After the Wildcats put six across the board and chased CSUN starter Mia Pagano in the first, the Matadors responded with four runs in the top of the second.

With two outs, Tanna Bindi singled to keep the inning alive and load the bases. Jennifer Mosier then delivered a single up the middle to score Karla Chaparro and Samantha Sloniker. Jaci Carlsen then delivered a two-run double down the left-field line to score Bindi and Mosier.

Arizona added three runs in the bottom of the third, but Northridge got one back in the top of the fourth. Mosier started the inning by reaching on a single and then moved to second on a single by Carsen. After Mikayla Thielges moved them up a base with a sac bunt, Sale delivered a two-out single to left field to score Mosier.

However, that would be the end of the Matadors scoring. Meanwhile, Arizona scored twice in the fourth and five times in the sixth, including a walk-off grand slam to end the game.

Pagano took the loss for CSUN, her first of the season. She went just 0.1 innings, allowing five earned runs while walking two. Carly Wade tossed 3.2 innings of relief, giving up eight hits, eight walks and nine earned runs. Hannah Fraijo was CSUN's final pitcher, as she tossed 0.1 innings with one hit and two earned runs.

The Matadors return to California for the rest of their 2011 season. Next up for Northridge is the start of the 2011 Big West season with a three-game series at UC Davis. The Matadors and Aggies will play a doubleheader on April 2 and a single game on April 3. The two clubs shared the conference title last year, with the Aggies advancing to the NCAA Tournament because they took two of three from CSUN.
