NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge softball team (8-12) defeated IPFW 4-1 Wednesday afternoon at Matador Diamond in a non-conference game. Jaci Carlsen had three hits, including her third home run of the season, Mikayla Thielges had two RBIs and Hannah Fraijo tossed a complete game as the Matadors triumphed over the Mastadons.

In their only game of the week, the Matadors responded to an early IPFW run with three of their own in the bottom of the first. Samantha Sloniker led off the bottom of the first with a single and then moved to second on a bunt single by Carlsen.

After the runners moved up a base, Tracy Allen collected her 11th RBI of the season with a single up the middle. Although Carlsen was thrown out at the plate on the play for the second out of the inning, Kristen Mihm drew a walk to bring Thielges up to the plate. She then cranked a two-run double into right-center to score Allen and Mihm.

For the season, Thielges is batting .234 with six home runs, 18 RBIs and seven runs scored. She also sports a team-leading .638 slugging percentage and a .356 on-base percentage.

Carlsen added the fourth run of the game for the Matadors, blasting her third home run of the season into left field in the bottom of the fifth. On Wednesday, she went 3-for-3 with the home run and a stolen base. For the season, she is batting .304 with seven RBIs and four stolen bases.

Fraijo was tough in the circle for CSUN. She went the full 7.0 innings to improve to 6-2 in her junior season. Fraijo scattered three hits and four walks while fanning three Mastadons.



Courtney Cronin lasted just 0.2 innings with three earned runs and four hits in taking the loss for IPFW.

Northridge has the weekend off and does not return to action until a doubleheader against North Dakota on Tuesday, Feb. 15 at Matador Diamond. First pitch of the first game is slate for 1 p.m.
