RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge softball team (5-7) defeated UNLV 4-3 Friday afternoon at the Amy S. Harrison Classic on the campus of UC Riverside. Hannah Fraijo tossed a complete hitter and Korinne Randazzo delivered the game-winning RBI in the seventh inning as the Matadors snapped a five-game losing streak.

Tied 3-3 and heading into the final inning, Randazzo picked up her first hit with the Mataors in driving home Jennifer Mosier for the game-winning run. She drove a hard liner to second base that took a funky hop on the Rebel infielder and squirted into right fielder.

Two of CSUN's runs came via the long ball. Mikayla Thielges and Jaci Carlsen each cranked home runs of the left field fence in the fourth inning with two outs. For Thielges, the home run was the third of her season and gives her 10 RBIs. Carlsen's blast was her second of the season and the 12th of her career.

Mosier had the team's fourth RBI, scoring Thielges on an RBI single to center that tied the game in the top of the second. For Thielges, the two runs scored represents a new career high.

In the circle, Fraijo navigated her way through seven innings to earn her third win of the season. She successfully escaped multiple frames with runners on base and finished with a season-high three strikeouts.

UNLV scored a run in the first and then added a two-run home run in the third.

For CSUN head coach Tairia Flowers, the Matadors did some nice things Friday to end their losing streak.

"At the plate, I thought our timing was much better today and that allowed us to drive the ball well," Flowers said. "We also did a better job on our pitch selection and forced the defense to make plays in almost every at-bat."

Weather permitting, Northridge will play twice Saturday at the event. They will face the host Highlanders in a non-conference game starting at 11:30 a.m., and then face Boise State for the first time in school history at 2 p.m. The Matadors close out their stay at the Amy S. Harrison Classic with a 12:30 game against UNLV on Sunday, Feb. 27.

The Matadors return to Matador Diamond after that for a game against Cal State Bakersfield on Wednesday, Mar. 2 at 2 p.m.
