NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's soccer team (9-9, 5-2 BWC) defeated UC Irvine, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Matador Soccer Field. Sophomore Heidi Farran scored the game's only goal in the 51st minute of action and freshman Cynthia Jacobo made two saves in net to record her fourth-straight shutout over a league opponent.

The win, coupled with earlier results from the league Sunday, gave the Matadors a berth into the Big West Tournament for the first time since 2004. The Matadors' seed in the four-team tournament will depend on how the rest of the season plays out.

On the goal, junior Farryn Townley played a ball into the corner for Jasmine Pratt, who sent a cross into the Anteaters' 18. Farran then crashed the net and deposited a one-time strike past the UCI goalkeeper for her third goal of the season. For Pratt, the assist was her second of the year and the helper was Townley's first of the season.

In net, Jacobo continued to deny all would-be-goal-scorers, extending her season shutout streak to 414:17. She has now posted four-straight shutouts against league opponents, the first time in school history that CSUN has accomplished the feat.

In the first half, Jacobo made a lunging save to her left to deny a UCI attack. She finished with six saves in the contest and owns a 1.000 save percentage and 0.00 goals-against-average. Danielle de Seriere made six saves for UC Irvine in the loss.

UC Irvine, who entered the match boasting the league's top offense, fired a total of 21 shots in the game and won eight corner kicks. CSUN had 12 shots and three corner kicks in the match.

The Matadors return to the pitch on Sunday, Nov. 1 for their final contest of the 2009 regular season, a meeting with Long Beach State at 2:30 p.m. at Matador Soccer Field. Before the game, the women's soccer program will honor its three seniors on the 2009 squad: Sydney Vermillion, Kelley Ross and Niki Connolly.

Junior Jasmine Pratt picked up her second assist of the season on Heidi Farran's goal.
