BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Freshman Ashlee Nagamine closed with a final round 79 to capture her first collegiate tournament at the Elco, Inc. Intercollegiate tournament at Bakersfield C.C. As a team, Northridge finished second.

Nagamine put together rounds of 78-79 (+9, 157) to edge Taryn Kuida of Portland (+10, 159) by one shot. Nagamine carded the only Northridge rounds in the 70's and had two of the six low rounds in the tournament.

"The course played long today," said Matador head coach Bonnie Murphy. "The greens were huge and running really fast."

"I'm really happy for Ashlee," added Murphy. "She battled and grinded it out and can thank her short game today. I'm really excited about the future of the program."

Stephanie Aston and Katrina Sutton, competing for the Matador "B" team, both finished tied for eighth at +16, 164 after each posted identical rounds of 80-84. Krystina Gillenwater (81-84) of the Northridge "A" team finished tied for 11th at +17, 165 while Julie Cho (82-86) and Monique Huijsman (81-87) each placed tied for 17th at +20, 168.
