Junior Heather Cushing had a team-high 12 points for Northridge, but five players scored in double figures for Long Beach State, as the 49ers remained undefeated in Big West play with a 102-62 victory over the Matadors on Sunday at The Matadome.
The Matadors, who see their two-game winning streak come to an end, fall to 5-11 and 2-3 in Big West action. The 49ers win their fourth straight and improve to 11-5 and 4-0 in league play.
Long Beach never trailed, jumping out to a 12-2 lead over the first five minutes. The 49ers would lead 20-10 midway through the first half before the Matadors made a run, scoring the next six points to cut the lead to 20-16 at 8:59. But in just under two minutes, Long Beach State had the advantage back up above double digits, leading by as many as 18 in the first half at 47-29.
Things would only get worse in the second half for the Matadors, with Long Beach State scoring the first six points and leading by at least 20 for the final 17 minutes. The 49ers' biggest advantage was 42 at 102-60 in the final minute.
Sophomore Katie Holloway was the only other Matador to reach double figures in points, scoring 10. Long Beach State shot 63.2% from the field to Northridge's 41%, while also outrebounding the Matadors 40-24. Crystal McCutcheon had a game-high 22 points, with Jeannie Saunders adding 18. Fernanda Santos posted a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Mary Has scored 14 and Karina Figueroa had 13.
