CSUN Punches Its Ticket to Big West Tournament with 70-61 Victory over Pacific

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge women's basketball team (7-22, 4-12 BWC) defeated Pacific, 70-61, Saturday night at The Matadome. The win, coupled with Long Beach State's 74-62 loss to UC Santa Barbara, gives the Matadors the eighth seed next week at The Big West Tournament in Anaheim, Calif., at the Anaheim Convention Center.

In the win, CSUN overcame a 32-29 halftime deficit to get the win. Seniors Ashley Blake and Tonicia Tademy, both of whom were playing the final home game of their careers, scored 15 points each for the Matadors in the victory. Tademy added nine rebounds, four steals and four assists while Blake connected on three 3-pointers.

Northridge took its first lead of the second half with 12:32 left in the game following a 3-pointer by Blake. The Tigers would fight back, taking a 49-48 lead with 8:05 remaining in the game. However, senior Whitney Ligon would score five of Northridge's next seven points, including one of her two 3-pointers, to give CSUN a lead they would not relinquish.

Ligon finished with nine points for the Matadors while Neeta Sreekanth added seven points and four rebounds off the bench for the Matadors. Katrina Thompson led all players with 10 rebounds, her sixth double-figure rebounding performance of the season.

Bridgette Conejo added six points, including four free throws, off the bench as well, as Northridge held a narrow 18-17 lead in bench points for the game.

CSUN finished the game shooting 40.7 percent from the field, including a 50 percent rage (14-of-28) in the second half. The Matadors also connected on 73.7 percent of their free throws, with Tademy hitting all six of her attempts.



The Matadors also out-rebounded the Tigers, 38-37, and forced 16 Pacific turnovers. Amber Simmons led Pacific with 17 points, though only five came in the second half.

As the eighth-seeded team in the Big West Tournament, the Matadors will face fifth-seeded UC Davis on Wednesday in Anaheim, Calif. A game time will be announced shortly. Check back at for all the details on the Big West Tournament.
