#1 CSUN Men's Volleyball Team attracts large crowds ... Volleyball Vibes ...
Matador men's volleyball head coach Jeff Campbell will be the first one to tell you that NCAA championships are not handed out during mid-season, and not just because you're the #1 team in the country ... There is plenty of season left, and CSUN is continuing to build momentum to the league playoffs in mid-April ... But for now, the #1 ranking is creating a lot of excitement for Matador fans ... Since Cal State Northridge became an NCAA Division I member in 1990, no Matador team has ever reached a #1 national ranking until now ... Quite an accomplishment for a Matador team that started the season ranked seventh ... What is truly amazing is that CSUN has attained the #1 national ranking playing in the toughest men's volleyball conference in the country, the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) ... The Matadors have beaten five of the nation's Top 10 teams in chalking up a 17-4 overall record, a 13-3 conference mark, and a school record eleven wins ... So what's the secret Coach Campbell? ... "We have two outstanding fifth-year seniors (Isaac Kneubuhl and Travis Bluemling) who have been the glue to keeping this team together. This is the best team I've ever coached. There has been a consistency that we've had this year, that we didn't have in previous years. That is because of the senior leadership and talent throughout the team. We're having a nice year, obviously." ... Next up for the Matadors are Mar. 25th and 26th matches against nationally-ranked Hawaii at The Matadome ... Match times are 7:00 p.m. ... BE THERE!!!
