The NCAA Track & Field West Regionals are finally here at Cal State Northridge this weekend (May 30-31). How special is this meet?
You¹re going to see several athletes who will also compete at the Summer Olympics in Beijing. This is the first big stepping stone for the student-athletes S the Regionals, the Nationals and then the Olympics.
You¹ll be able to see some of the top student-athletes from the western United States.
In order to reach the NCAA Track & Field Nationals, what do you have to accomplish at the Regionals?
The top five finishers in each individual event along with the top three finishers in the relay events will automatically advance to the NCAA's.
There will be more than 700 athletes competing from 29 Division I schools in the Western United States.
How many Cal State Northridge student-athletes will be represented at the NCAA West Regionals?
Cal State Northridge has 28 student-athletes competing in 31 events along with three of the four relay events. We have an excellent chance to get the largest number of people to the NCAA Championships in school history. We¹re excited about this weekend and the opportunity to host this premier event to Southern California.
How proud are you that the NCAA has returned to Cal State Northridge to host this prestigious track & field meet?
We are the only mid-major university to host a regional this year. (The other regionals are at Nebraska, Arkansas and Virginia Tech). This is the second time we have hosted the NCAA West Regionals. This is an exciting time for the Northridge community, the athletic department and the University to host a meet of this caliber.
