Robinson Takes Second For Second Straight Year in Big West Decathlon

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Sophomore Robert Robinson finished as the runner-up for the second consecutive year in the Big West decathlon and fellow sophomore Owen Morse was fifth to earn the Cal State Northridge men 12 points.

Robinson scored a lifetime-best 7,020 points which is the fifth-best total in Northridge history. He ran a season-best 14.93 in the 110 meter hurdles to earn 858 points and finished second in the 1,500 meters to pick up 624 points. Robinson also earned 645 points in the discus, 590 points in the pole vault and 569 points in the javelin. Robinson scored a then-career best 6,656 points to finish second in 2007.

Robinson's secod place finish in the decathlon marks the third straight Big West Championship that a Matador men has finished second. Justin Johnson also finished second in the 2006.

Morse, who was in fourth-place heading into the final event, the 1,500 meters, ran 5:14 to clip to fifth and earn the Matador men an additional four points. Morse began the day with a time of 15.60 in the 110 meter hurdles to earn 778 points then picked up 573 points in the discus (116-3), 562 points in the pole vault (12-5.5) and 483 points in the javelin (140-7).

Long Beach State's Chris Richardson won the decathlon title with 7,461 points.
