Seniors Star on Senior Day, Lead the Matadors to 2-1 Victory
Box Score

Northridge, Calif. -- After a pregame ceremony to honor departing seniors Fergie Agwu, Matt Tracy, Peter Bomar, and Sean Franklin, the quartet led Northridge (7-7-6, 3-5-4) to a 2-1 victory Friday over UC Irvine (6-8-5, 1-7-3) in Big West Conference play at Matador Soccer Field. Bomar logged the first start of his career between the pipes and made several spectacular saves, and Tracy scored the game-winner in the first half.

Devin Deldo was the first player to get Northridge on the board, tallying his fourth score of the year in the ninth minute. Luis Smith served a ball to Sunghyun Kim, who crossed it through the box and on to Deldo, who deflected the offering past Anteater keeper Pat Barton.

Matt Tracy added the second score in the 18th minute, bending a free kick into the far post corner from 28 yards out.

Peter Bomar didn't face a shot on goal until the second half, but he turned the attempt into an incredible save. Diego Hernandez put a shot on goal that looked to be over Bomar's head, but the senior shot his fist up and deflected the ball off of the cross bar. Bomar collected three saves total.

The 'Eaters broke through in the 74th minute when a scramble in the box resulted in an Amani Walker score. Rafael Macedo and Jonathan Kurup assisted on the UCI score.

The Anteaters tried to turn the momentum and did have several opportunities in the Matador end, including a three-minute sequence that saw UCI gain four corner kicks. The 'Eaters were turned away each time.

The Anteaters' best chance came seconds before time expired in the second half. A loose ball in the Matador end bounced around in the box, but was cleared as time expired.

The game represented the final match of the season for the Matadors, who are out of contention for postseason play. Still, the win brought the Matadors back to .500 for the season.
