RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. - Freshman Nick Delio capped an impressive first season with a fifth-place finish while junior Erik Jarvey was ninth for the third-place Cal State Northridge men's golf team at the Big West Championship.

As a team, the Matadors fired a solid final round 284 to take hold of third place behind UC Davis and team winner UC Irvine. Northridge finished the three-round championship with rounds of 289-300-284 for a team total of +9, 873. The Anteaters won the team title with a team score of -15, 849 while the Aggies were second at -9, 855.

The third place finish equals the best by Northridge team since the Matadors joined the Big West in 2001-02. Northridge also placed third in 2004.

"We knew it was pretty unrealistic for us to win the championship after the way we played in the second round," said head coach Jim Bracken. "But we knew we wanted to finish strong and at least take third-place."

Delio, a First Team All-Big West golfer as well as conference Freshman of the Year, carded the low round of the championship with a 65 on Tuesday. Tied for 15th after two rounds on Monday, Delio moved up the leaderboard to fifth after the sizzling round of 65. He wound up with a three-round four-under-par 212 (75-72-65).

Jarvey also finished in the top-10 as the junior wound up ninth at even-par 216. After rounds of 71-75 on Monday, Jarvey closed with a two-under 70 on Tuesday to crack the conference top 10.

Chris Satterlee, a Second Team All-Big West selection, ended the tournament tied for 14th after a final round 75 left him at +4, 220. Satterlee carded rounds of 73-72-75 over the two days.

Senior Aaron Hobbs, who had a rollercoaster Monday after a two-under 70 followed by a +9, 81, closed with a 74 on Tuesday to finish tied for 24th at +9, 225.

Sophomore Clint Oleson struggled throughout the tournament finishing 39th at +24, 240 after rounds of 81-81-78.

UC Irvine had the top two individual finishers as John Chin won the conference championship with a three-round -9, 207 while teammate Sean Shahi was three shots back at -6, 210.

"Overall we had one of the best and most consistent seasons we've had in years," added Bracken. "I definitely think the future is bright for Northridge golf with the main core of guys coming back next year."
