RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. - After posting a solid opening-round of 289 as a team, the Cal State Northridge men's golf team struggled to a second round 300 and is 18 strokes off the pace at the Big West Championship at Tijeras Creek G.C.

The team competition looks to be a two-team race as UC Davis and UC Irvine are both in the clubhouse at five-under-par 571, 17 shots ahead of third-place Pacific (588) heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes. The Matadors are fourth (589) followed by UC Santa Barbara (592), UC Riverside (595), Cal Poly (603) and Long Beach State (620).

"We were right there after 27-30 holes but we just didn't finish strong," said Matador head coach Jim Bracken. "We hit some poor shots and it cost us dearly."

As a team, Northridge was nine-over-par on the par-4, 404-yard 17th hole.

Junior Chris Satterlee was the most consistent Northridge golfer on Monday as he carded rounds of 73-72 and is tied for 10th at one-over-par 145. Junior Erik Jarvey, who carded Northridge's second-best round of the day with a first round one-under 71, is one shot behind Satterlee at two-over 146 after posting rounds of 71-75. Freshman Nick Delio is also hanging around even-par for the tournament as he is tied for 15th at three-over 147 after rounds of 75-72. Senior Aaron Hobbs started out strong posting a Matador-low two-under 70 in the first round but could not sustain the momentum slipping to a second-round 81. Hobbs is currently tied for 22nd at +7, 151 while sophomore Clint Oleson is 40th at +18, 162 following back-to-back rounds of 81.

"It's frustrating, but we'll see if we can light it up tomorrow and see what happens" added Bracken. "Tomorrow's a new day and we'll try to catch who we can."

Tuesday's final round of 18 holes is set for 7:30 a.m.
