Final Rouund 285 Moves Matadors Into a 13th-Place Finish at ASU Thunderbird

TEMPE, Ariz. - Junior Erik Jarvey fired a final round 69 to lead Cal State Northridge from Saturday's 15th-place position into a 13th-place final finish at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational at ASU's Karsten Golf Course.

As a team, the Matadors posted their best round of the three-day tournament as they fired a team round of 285, 12 strokes better than Friday's 297 and 15 shots better than Saturday's 300. Northridge finished 13th at 882 but was just five shots out of the top 10.

The host Sun Devils won the team title with a three-round 843, nine shots ahead of the ASU Maroon Team, which finished at 852 (279-286-287).

Denver's Espen Kofstad's three-under-par 210 (70-72-68) was one shot better than Arizona State's Knut Borsheim who finished second at two-under 211. ASU's Braxton Marquez, who was tied for first after the first round, finished third at one-under 212 along with freshman teammate Jesper Kennegard (75-68-69).

Jarvey finished a Northridge-best 24th at +4, 217 after rounds of 72-76-69. His final round 69 matches his tournament low of the season. Freshman Nick Delio was two strokes back in a tie for 31st at +6, 219 after rounds of 76-72-71, Chris Satterlee finished tied for 40th at +8, 221 after rounds of 72-75-74, Clint Oleson tied for 65th at +12, 225 after rounds of 77-77-71 and Kyle Nicolson was 85th at +30, 243 after rounds of 80-79-84. Aaron Hobbs competed as an individual and finished tied for 65th with Oleson at +12, 225 after posting rounds of 78-76-71.

The ASU tournament was the final tuneup for the Matadors before the Big West Championships which will be held Apr. 21-22 at Tijeras Creek G.C. in Rancho Santa Margarita.
