March 28, 2008

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - Freshman Nick Delio and junior Chris Satterlee both finished in fourth place and the Cal State Northridge men's golf team carded a final-round 296 to claim second place at the Cal Poly Intercollegiate at Cypress Ridge G.C.

The Matadors, who trailed team-leader Cal Poly by just five strokes after two rounds of Thursday, fell 11 shots back after Friday's final round. The host Mustangs claimed the team title with a three-round 871 (294-287-290) while the Matadors came in at 882 (297-289-296). Northridge edged third-place British Columbia (883) by one shot.

Individually, Delio and Satterlee finished just two shots behind Cal Poly's Brycen Wagner and British Columbia's Cory Renfrew. Wagner went on to defeat Renfrew in a playoff to claim Individual Medalist honors.

Delio, who held a two-shot lead on Wagner and Utah Valley State's Nick Nelson following his -4, 140 score on Thursday, finished with a disappointing 75 on Friday to finish at -1, 215. Satterlee also kept himself in the hunt with a final-round, even-par 72. Satterlee wound up with rounds of 73-70-72 to finish tied with Delio at -1, 215.

Junior Erik Jarvey also finished among the top 25 golfers as he posted a final-round +2, 74 to finish tied for 22nd at +11, 227 with rounds of 79-74-74. Kyle Nicolson placed 29th at +13, 229 after rebounding from a tough opening-round 80 to post rounds of 74-75. Clint Oleson finished in a tie for 36th at +15, 231 after rounds of 76-79-76 and Aaron Hobbs tied for 51st at +19, 235 with rounds of 79-80-76.

It's a quick turnaround for Northridge as the Matadors return to action this Monday and Tuesday at the OGIO Pacific Coast Intercollegiate hosted by UC Santa Barbara at Rancho San Marcos Golf Course.
