FRESNO, Calif. -
After an opening-round 286 followed by a second round 291, Cal State Northridge closed with a 293 as the Matadors slipped from ninth to a 12th-place finish at the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic at Fort Washington C.C.
"It was a frustrating day today, we simply couldn't get anything going," said Matador head coach Jim Bracken. "I think we're coming along as a team. We just need a few more rounds with guys shooting red numbers, which I definitely think we can do."
Freshman Nick Delio carded the Matadors low round of the day as he shot a one under-par, 71 to go with rounds of 72-77 on Monday. Delio wound up tied for 57th at +4, 220.
Junior Clint Oleson and senior Kyle Nicolson both finished a Northridge-best 43rd after each came in at +2, 218. Oleson closed with a 73 after rounds of 71-74 on Monday while Nicolson finished with a 75 which followed opening-rounds of 70-73.
Junior Chris Satterlee was a shot back in 52nd-place at +3, 219 after rounds of 73-72-74 and junior Erik Jarvey finished tied for 84th at +12, 228 after rounds of 78-72-78.
As a team, Northridge posted rounds of 286-291-293 to finish with a three-round +6, 870. The Matadors were just six strokes out of the top-eight in the 20-team field.
San Diego State won the team title with a three-round -23, 841 while the Aztecs' Matt Hoffenberg and Texas' Charlie Holland shared individual medalist honors at -9, 207.
