FRESNO, Calif. -
The Cal State Northridge men's golf team carded rounds of 286 and 291 on Monday and is tied for ninth-place heading into Tuesday's final round. The Matadors, tied with Loyola Marymount at 577, are just seven shots out of the top five.
"We played well today, we just didn't make a whole lot of putts," said head coach Jim Bracken. "We hit the ball better than we scored. If we can put together a solid last round we can still finish in the top five so that's what we're shooting for."
Senior Kyle Nicolson, who won the GADO/North Texas Classic two weeks ago and finished a disappointing 57th at the Braveheart Classic last week, opened with a two under-par 70 on Monday and closed with a +1, 73. Nicolson is currently tied for 26th at -1, 143.
Juniors Clint Oleson and Chris Satterlee are both tied for 37th at +1, 145. Oleson, who was tied for 17th after one round, carded rounds of 71-74 while Satterlee finished with rounds of 73-72. Freshman Nick Delio fired an even-par 72 in the first round but slipped to a +5, 77 and is tied for 73rd at +5, 149. Erik Jarvey rounded out the Northridge scoring with rounds of 78-72 and is tied for 77th at +6, 150.
San Diego State (552) carries a six-shot lead into Tuesday's final 18 holes while Long Beach State individual Issei Suenaga is the individual leader at -10, 134.
