Northridge, Calif. - The Cal State Northridge men's basketball schedule is always challenging. The 2010-11 campaign will be no exception.

"We have another challenging schedule in front of us but we are actually pretty excited about the opportunity," said Bobby Braswell, who is entering his 15th season as head coach of the Matadors. "It's an opportunity to have our young team play on the road in some big arenas against some great basketball teams. Our philosophy has always been to play a tough pre-season schedule that will help us when we starting playing our conference games. We look at the schedule as an opportunity, not an obstacle."

The Matadors begin the season as if it were competing in the Pacific-10 Conference. The season opener takes place at Pauley Pavilion when CSUN faces the challenge of UCLA on Nov. 12. It is also the season opener for the Bruins. Then the Matadors take a flight to the Bay Area to face defending Pac-10 champion and 2010 NCAA Tournament participant California at Haas Pavilion.

Following the home opener against Vanguard at The Matadome on Nov. 20 (2:00 pm.), Cal State Northridge will compete in the 76 Classic at the Anaheim Convention Center on Nov. 25-28. On Nov. 25 at 11 a.m., Cal State Northridge will face Virginia Tech on ESPNU. The following day, Cal State Northridge will face either DePaul or Oklahoma State at either 11:30 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. on either ESPN2 or ESPNU.

Five of the eight teams in the 76 Classic reached the post-season in 2009-10, including three in the NCAA Tournament. Murray State advanced to the second round, while Oklahoma State and UNLV were first-round participants in the field of 65 teams. Tulsa and Virginia Tech both participated in the National Invitation Tournament. Stanford and DePaul are also entered in the eight-team field.

The 2010 76 Classic will feature 12 games through three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through a bracket-tournament format. The two teams that remain undefeated will face off in a championship game Sunday, Nov. 28, at 6 p.m. (pt) on ESPN2.

The Matador road caravan continues on Dec. 2 at Air Force, and then a short bus ride on Dec. 4 to Denver.

From Dec. 7 through Dec. 30, the Matadors will play four of their next five games at home starting with Cal Lutheran on Dec. 7 (7:05 p.m.) and Santa Clara on Dec, 22 (7:05 p.m.). The Big West season starts on Dec. 28 at home against league contender Pacific (7:05 p.m.) followed by another Big West home contest on Dec. 30 against UC Davis, also at 7:05 p.m.

"UCSB is the team that everybody will be fighting (for the top spot in the Big West Conference)," said Braswell. "I think Long Beach State is another team that will be very good this upcoming year. We'll be a young basketball team. My hope is that we will get better as the season progresses. We have to be patient. We know there is a lot of teaching to do, but we have some young talented basketball players who have the potential to be great."

In all, Cal State Northridge will have 12 home games during the regular season.
