Assistant Coach

A bit of international coaching and playing experience was added to the Cal State Northridge men's basketball staff during the summer of 2007 with the addition of James Blake as an assistant coach.

Blake hails from Canada where he played collegiately at Brandon College (1995-97) and at the University of Victoria (1998-2000). Blake graduated from Victoria with a B.A. degree in History, and later graduated from the Masters Coaching Program at The National Coaching Institution at Victoria.

During his playing days at Brandon College (located in Manitoba), Blake helped lead the team to the Canadian University National Championship (1996). For his efforts he won several post-season awards including Rookie of the Year and Most Inspirational. During his junior year at Victoria, Blake helped lead the team to the Canadian West championship (1999) and an appearance in the Elite Eight in Halifax, Nova Scotia. For his efforts, Blake was awarded the Inspirational Varsity award.

After graduation, Blake took his playing skills overseas to England where he played professionally for one year (12.0 ppg, 4.8 apg) for tge Coventry Crusaders.

Since 2004, Blake, who holds dual citizenship (American/Canadian), has coached in the United States, first at Idaho State University, and then for the past two seasons at Cal State Stanislaus. Blake began his coaching career at St. Michael's University School in Victoria (2001-02). Blake then spent two seasons at the University of Victoria (2002-04).
