NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - The Big West Conference announced today that Cal State Northridge centerfielder Andrew Muren was named Co-Player of the Week for the week of March 7 through 13. Muren shares the honor with UC Irvine's D.J. Crumlish.

In the Matadors' five games this past week (3-2), Muren hit for a .409 batting average (9-for-22) and hit two homeruns. His slugging percentage was .864, as he tallied four doubles in five games, drove in seven runs and scored six more.

"It's nice being recognized for playing well and doing what needs to be done for our team to win," Muren said. "We as a team [this weekend] didn't do enough to win, and I didn't do enough to help the team. Our approach mentally is to fear none, respect all. It's all about how we respond though, and we will see Tuesday with UNLV."

In Northridge's victory over San Diego State last Tuesday, the redshirt junior from Ramona, Calif. went 3-for-5 with five RBI as he blasted the Matadors' first grand slam in 2011. He added a double and a single to his hit total and fell just short of completing the cycle. His grand slam in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Northridge a 10-8 lead over the Aztecs, a game in which CSUN would hold on to win 12-9.

During the four-game series against Lafayette College, Muren hit another homerun and three more doubles as the Matadors split the weekend with the Leopards. In the bottom of the first inning on Friday, he hit a solo homerun to give him back-to-back at-bats with a homerun.

In the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday, Muren doubled to bring in the eventual winning run, giving him two game-winning RBI this week. He also stole two bases in two attempts.

"Drew's been swinging the bat well all year. His plate discipline has improved in the last week and he has found more pitches he can drive leading to more extra base hits and run production," said head coach Matt Curtis. "We hope Drew continues making progress as we continue to prepare for conference play."
