Cody deSpain joined the Cal State Northridge Matadors as a freshman and redshirted in 2011.

Taft High School

deSpain earned First Team All-West Valley League and First Team All-City Honors for the Toreadors in 2010, and he was also named team MVP. deSpain was an outfielder for head coach Scott Osder from 2008-10 and racked up an impressive .410 batting average with 8 homeruns, 39 RBIs and 23 steals as a senior. deSpain graduated in 2010 with a 3.1 GPA.


Cody deSpain was born on Dec. 1, 1992 in Woodland Hills, Calif. ... parents are Jennifer and Mike deSpain ... has two brothers, Blake (15) and Jackson (10) ... attended Cal Poly Pomona for the Fall 2010 quarter before transferring to Cal State Northridge ... lists his favorite professional teams as the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Oakland Raiders and his favorite professional athlete is Albert Pujols ... other favorites include actor Leonardo DiCaprio, Mexican food, TV show Dexter and movie Boyz N The Hood, and musician Tech N9NE ... chose CSUN because it is close to home and the coaches gave him an opportunity to play ... his greatest sports moment came when he recorded the walkoff hit against league rival Chatsworth as a sophomore, giving Taft its first win over Chatsworth in 10 years ... the best athlete he has competed against is Bryce Harper ... to him, the best thing about being a student-athlete is competing at a high level and staying active, while the toughest part is balancing time between other commitments ... before games, he listens to music and has a light workout to get ready ... he would like to switch places with Jay-Z for a day, even though he dislikes him ... no one knows how much Cody works to improve his game ... majoring in Business Marketing.
