Student-Athlete Advisory Council

The Northridge Student-Athlete Advisory Council helped a local family experience a happy holiday, delivering presents to a family of six. Matador athletes raised over $1200, including money from their own pockets, to help buy gifts for the family.

The SAAC identified the family via M.E.N.D. (Meet Every Need With Dignity). The family was a mother and father with four children, ages seven, five, two and six months. On hand delivering the presents were baseball's Jorge Andrade, Jr. and Taylor King, men's volleyball's Travis Bluemling, softball's Jackie Duree and Kelly Zakosek, track and field's Diana Rosete, women's soccer's Evy Cedillo and Tryna Tafoya, women's tennis' Ana Matijasevic and women's volleyball's Colleen Tobin.

"It is a wonderful opportunity for student-athletes to see the positive impact they can have on a family in our community," said Janet Pinneau, Assistant Athletic Director for Student Services. "The money raised by the student-athletes was able to provide everything from baby dolls to kids clothes to an oven appliance."

"It was a great feeling to see the children happy when they saw all their gifts," Cedillo said. "They got even happier when they got to open one of their presents early. We all contributed and made it possible for this family to have an unforgettable and memorable Christmas."
