Northridge, Calif. - The deadline to nominate deserving former Matador student-athletes, teams, coaches and administrators for induction into the Matador Hall of Fame of 2010 has been extended to July 31.

The newest members of the 2010 Matador Hall of Fame will be honored at a banquet on February 21, 2010, at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel.

Many outstanding student-athletes have worn the Matador colors of Red, White and Black since Cal State Northridge opened its doors in 1958. An elite group of 105 student-athletes, former administrators, coaches and one team representing 18 sports have been inducted into the Cal State Northridge Athletic Hall of Fame.

Last year, nearly 400 family, friends, Cal State Northridge President Dr Jolene Koester and avid supporters of Matador Athletics honored six new individual members and one Matador team. The 2009 inductees were Marwan Ass'ad (soccer), Marcus Brady (football), Brian Heinle (basketball), Jeff Kubiak (swimming), Beth Onestinghel-Woll (softball), Dr. Barbara Swerkes (track & field), and the 1970 national championship Matador baseball team.

The first CSUN Hall of Fame class was inducted in 1981 which included Dick Enberg (former assistant baseball coach, and now distinguished national broadcaster), former Matador and Angels baseball star Lyman Bostock, and former CSUN track and field champion and Olympian Julie Brown.

"Cal State Northridge has a rich tradition in athletics, and we would like to continue honoring several past student-athletes and teams who distinguished themselves while competing for Cal State Northridge," said Athletic Director Rick Mazzuto.

Any interested person may nominate a candidate by submitting an approved nomination form to The Matador Athletics Hall of Fame Committee. All nominations, in written form, must be submitted to the Committee by July 31, 2009 for consideration for induction on February 21, 2010. Please return the completed forms to
